26th–27th November 2025 | Conway Institute, University College Dublin
The All-Island Cancer Research Institute (AICRI) invites you to the 3rd AICRIstart Symposium, a two-day event bringing together cancer researchers, clinicians, industry representatives, policymakers, and patient advocates from across the island of Ireland.
This year’s symposium will showcase the breadth of innovation emerging from the AICRIstart PhD and postdoctoral programme in Precision Cancer Medicine, featuring presentations from early-career researchers across ten academic institutions. Attendees will gain insights into pioneering work spanning immunotherapy, biomarker discovery, tumour microenvironments, and next-generation diagnostics.
In addition to scientific presentations, the symposium will host panel discussions exploring diverse career pathways in cancer research, from academia and clinical practice to industry, policy, and advocacy. Participants will hear from experts representing organisations such as the Irish Cancer Society, Roche Ireland, Tangram Therapeutics, Research Ireland, and UCD, who will share perspectives on evolving research careers and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The programme will also highlight the growing role of the patient voice in shaping cancer research, with a dedicated session chaired by Dr Emma Dorris (UCD/PPI Ignite) featuring advocates from UCAN Ireland, Breakthrough Cancer Research, Cancer Patients Europe, and the NI Cancer Research Consumer Forum.
The symposium’s keynote address will be delivered by Prof John Crowne, Consultant Medical Oncologist at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, followed by the presentation of the All-Island Cancer Research Landscape Report led by Prof William Gallagher (UCD) and Prof Mark Lawler (QUB).
Whether you are a researcher, clinician, policymaker, or simply curious about where cancer research is headed next, this symposium offers an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge science, network with peers, and explore new possibilities for collaboration and career development.
