BEHIND WALLS WORKSHOP 1

SOLAS Centre, Dunmore Road, Williamstown, Waterford

Saturday 9th of May
10.30am - 12.30pm.

Register to attend a creative workshop for people affected by cancer.

The first Behind Walls workshop is taking place in the SOLAS Cancer Support Centre, Dunmore Road, Williamstown, Waterford on Saturday 9th of May from 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Join us for a small-group creative community workshop exploring cancer, conversation and creativity in a welcoming, supportive space. This session is especially for people with personal experience of cancer - including patients, patient advocates, carers and family members.

The purpose of this workshop is to capture lived experiences, perspectives, and understanding of cancer from diverse community groups, and translate these into the themes.

More specifically, they aim to:

  • Elicit authentic stories and perspectives from young people, patient advocates, and communities

  • Facilitate open conversations about cancer, reducing fear and stigma through dialogue

  • Translate discussion into visual concepts through collaborative sketching, idea generation, and feedback

  • Ensure the murals are community-led, reflecting real experiences rather than imposed narratives

The conversations had during the workshops aim to inspire mural artist ACHES to create a large scale mural in Waterford City Centre.

No creative experience is needed. This is not a clinical workshop. A light meal and refreshments will be provided.
